Remedies for dry skin

Let’s face it, we probably all experience dry skin at some point in our lives, whether it’s on our face or body, and it can be a problem. Our skin is exposed to so many elements; wind, rain, sun, cleaning products, washing powders…the list is endless.

Coupled with unbalanced diets, dehydration, stress, health problems, it is no wonder that most of us experience some dry and tired looking skin at least some of the time. But, if we all take a little more care, we can all have brighter looking skin without the irritating dry patches, not to mention the ageing effects of facial lines.

The skin is the largest organ in the body and so requires a lot of care and there are some Natural Remedies for dry skin that everyone can take advantage of to help give it a boost.

As well as a good, daily routine that includes plenty of drinking water, thorough cleansing, a balanced diet and moisturising, there are some essential oils which may also benefit dry skin. Here we have listed a selection of these oils, along with some tips on how to get the best out of them for your skin.

1: Give your skin a milk bath.

The lactic acid in milk exfoliates dead skin cells and may also increase skin’s ability to hold in moisture. Soak a washcloth in cold milk. Lay the cloth on any area of skin that is particularly dry or irritated. Leave the cloth there for five minutes, and when you rinse off the milk, do it gently, so some of the lactic acid stays on your skin.

2: Olive Oil, Lemon & Salt Scrub

A great alternative for anyone slightly skeeved out by rubbing straight oil on his/her skin! Mix the juice from 1 lemon with 5 tbsp of sea salt and one tbsp of olive oil to create a luxurious body scrub. The fresh lemon scent is invigorating and the added oil will leave your skin feeling fresh, moisturized and incredibly soft.

3:Honey

Honey softens and moisturizes dry skin, and can be applied directly to problem areas. Simply massage gently into skin and let sit for 2-3 minutes and rinse. Repeat daily and you’ll quickly notice much softer skin!

4: Aloe Vera gel

Apply aloe vera gel to help your dry skin heal more quickly. It contains acids that eat away dead skin cells. To obtain the gel, cut off a leaf at the base and split it open with a knife. Scrape out the gel with a spoon.
