Nowadays there are a lot of people who want to work from home, this has resulted to tons of online businesses and people trying to learn one or two online skill. People want to work from home because they feel more comfortable working from home and is a way of making money online

A person who works from home are people who work remotely, instead of at an office. Some people call them "Remote workers". Though there are some differences between people who work at home and people who are remote workers. Remote workers are people who work for a company or an organization, but they don't go to offices everyday. Though they report to the office through emails and other ways they can send messages across. They also communicate with their team members via skype etc, not only that there are times they are required to attend zoom meetings. 

Working remotely became popular during the outbreak of COVID 19, there was a horrifying pandemic which led to loss of lives. During this time, company's and organizations had to close down since nobody was allowed to come out for their own safety. A lot of businesses had to keep running and the only way to do that was for them to work at home. This was what made it popular during that time. 

Logically, working from home isn't a bad idea. In fact lots of company's like Amazon had a lot of sales, and many individuals also made a lot of money. In as much as people want to work from home there are advantages and disadvantages to it. Shall we start with the disadvantages?

1. Distractions at home

Let's face it, there are lot of distractions one can get from home. Distractions like Pets, Television, or maybe house chores can affect how you perform your job. I know some of you might say, I can handle distractions after all I live alone, but their are parents who still have little children at home and this can decrease your productivity and motivation.

2. It can lead to depression

Do not underrate your mental health. This is actually an area people tend to overlook. Mental stress can also lead to depression. According to research there is a link between working from home and depression symptoms. In fact, a review of 23 studies across 10 countries shows that, for some, working from home can lead to; anxiety, exhaustion, pain, depression, strain and stress. Most introverts claim working from home is just fine to them. Well if you are an extrovert, and you been in a conversation and talking to people, I suggest you get yourself an office.





3. Work-life vs. Family life balance

Sometimes it might be hard to balance work and doing other things at home. Let's assume you go to the office, you get to see people around. People you see in the office are usually busy with their own work, this alone can motivate you. But, when you are at home most times you are always going to the fridge or the kitchen. You tend to always add weight since you work for many hours and you are at home doing that plus you are always eating. You have your phones to distract you. Friends might decide to come visiting. That is why it is sometimes difficult to balance your work-life with your family life.

Although working from home can help increase your productivity, it can also be a challenge to it. A situation whereby you are unable to balance or solve the above three challenges, don't you think your output will be affected. Yes it will, because your inability to manage those problems might lead to slower productivity.

Without this, you will constantly be tempted to do other things, and before you know it, your whole day will be gone.
  • Maintain consistent working hours
When your mind is completely onto work, it is quite possible for you to be unaware of the amount of time that has passed. You should always make a routine of workdays and working hours. It has to be prepared in way that you can follow it with ease. If you plan on working for 8 hours straight on a workday, from 9am to 5pm, make sure you stick to your schedule. You need to follow an organized timetable for work.
