AI, Ethics & Climate Governance Fellowship 2026
A fully online 8-week fellowship for emerging African researchers, practitioners, advocates and policy thinkers exploring the future of AI, climate and governance.
About the AI, Ethics & Climate Governance Fellowship
Emerging Climate Frontiers (ECF) and the Young Africans Research Academy (YARA) are inviting applications for the inaugural AI, Ethics and Climate Governance Fellowship 2026.
The eight-week online fellowship will bring together approximately 25 emerging African researchers, practitioners, advocates and policy thinkers to explore how artificial intelligence and other frontier technologies are shaping Africa's climate future.
The programme is particularly relevant for people who want to understand not only what emerging technologies can do, but also the questions that come with their use: Who is accountable? How should technology be governed? How can transparency be strengthened? And how can climate innovation be approached in a way that considers fairness and justice?
If your interests sit somewhere between technology, climate, public policy, research and responsible innovation, this is an opportunity worth reading about carefully before deciding whether to apply.

💬 JOIN JOBS COMMUNITYWhy This Fellowship May Interest You
Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming part of conversations about development, public services, research, business and climate action. That creates a growing need for people who can look beyond the technology itself and ask important questions about its social and environmental impact.
This fellowship brings those conversations together through the lens of Africa. It provides a space for participants to examine issues around ethics, governance, accountability, justice and transparency in the use of emerging technologies.
For someone building a career in research, policy, advocacy, climate work or technology, the subject matter can also help you develop a more focused understanding of an increasingly interdisciplinary area.
You do not necessarily need to fit neatly into one professional box. The intersection of disciplines is part of what makes this kind of programme relevant to people working across different areas.

Application Tips Before You Submit
A strong application does not need to sound complicated. It needs to clearly communicate who you are, what interests you and why this opportunity connects with your goals.
1. Make your CV relevant
Review your CV before submitting. Highlight experience connected to research, climate, technology, governance, policy, advocacy, communications or related areas where appropriate.
2. Be specific about your interests
Instead of using broad statements, explain the particular questions or problems that interest you. For example, you might be interested in responsible AI, climate policy, technology governance or transparency.
3. Show what you have done
Where possible, support your claims with evidence. Mention projects, research, publications, campaigns, community work, internships, professional experience or other relevant activities.
4. Proofread before submitting
Check names, dates, links, grammar and contact information. A final five-minute review can catch avoidable mistakes.
